Basic Function:
Assist Nursing Personnel in providing or aiding residents with non-professional nursing care, activities of daily living and simple technical nursing services and/or procedures under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
Characteristic Responsibilities:
Maintain residents right to privacy
Report all injuries of residents to supervisor immediately
Performs and/or assists residents in personal care and hygeine
Performs duties according to policy and procedure to maintain order safety and cleanliness in resident's environment
Participates in unit cleaning duties which are not performed by the housekeeping personnel as directed by the licensed nurse
Assists with restorative and rehabilitative care
Assists with feeding residents as assigned on unit or to the resident dining room
Applies aseptic technique in all resident care
Performs personal services and requests within reason which promote comfort, security and emotional well-being
Assists relatives, visitors and guests to visit comfortably
Observes residents and notes physical condition, attitude, reaction, appetite, and other pertinent information and reports changes or unusual findings to the licensed nurse
Records required information on appropriate documentation forms.
Transports residents to and from medical appointments as assigned by the charge nurse.
Performs other duties and assume responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
Supervision received:
Supervision by the Charge Nurse on the Unit or by the RN Supervisor on duty.
Supervision Exercised:
None.
Interpersonal Relationships:
Collaborates with other nursing assistants on the assigned unit.
Interaction with public, employees, family members, and residents
Attends inservice sessions as sponsored by the facility
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
High School Graduate
Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant course and/or previous experience in a nursin home
Current District of Columbia Nurse Aide Certificate is REQUIRED
Sense of responsibility, common sense, and desire to work with the elderly
Pleasant, tactful, and courteous
Ability to cooperate with other personnel
Ability to remain calm in emergencies.
Working conditions/physical exertion
Well-lighted and ventilated rooms and halls
Sits, stands, and walks most of the day
Lifts, moves, and supports resident sna dequipment
