Job Description
What You Will Do:

This person serves in an entry level technical position providing first line IT support for TMC operations. The System Technician will work closely with the TMC Director and the NYSDOT Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Coordinator to facilitate the installation, operation, repair, relocation and maintenance of the TMC's field and central hardware and software.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP: Reports directly to NYSDOT TMC Director and Consultant Operations Manager. Tasks may be assigned by the NYSDOT TMC Manager or the NYSDOT ITS Coordinator.

Education | Experience:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree or higher from an accredited college in Information Technology (IT), Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar computer-related discipline; OR
  • Minimum of three (3) years of full-time employment meeting the Qualifying Experience, AND
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Understanding of basic system administration & troubleshooting on Microsoft Windows systems
    • Static and DHCP Network (IPv4) configuration
    • Programming and Software installation
    • Basic connectivity diagnostics and troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications
  • Understanding how to author documents in Microsoft Office
    • Electronic Mail and Scheduling using Outlook
    • Immediate messaging and meeting capability in MS Team
    • Use of spreadsheets in Excel
  • Facilitate the installation, operation, repair, relocation, and maintenance of the TMC's field and
  • central hardware and software.
  • The Consultant shall provide 24/7/365 coverage for this role which includes back-up coverage and on call
  • Coverage during off-hours.
  • Basic user IT troubleshooting and support
  • Monitoring Operating System and Equipment updates
  • Performing various subsystem backups
  • Assist in field equipment configuration for deployment
  • Equipment and software maintenance and restarts
  • Other Duties as assigned

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

It is desired that candidates for this position also be proficient in the following areas:

  • Ability to react and cope under stressful situations professionally, in a timely manner and perform with minimal supervision
  • Experience working with ITS devices including
    • Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV),
    • Variable Message Signs (VMS), and
    • Various types of Detectors
    • Experience with wireless (Radio and Cellular) and fiber optic communication systems
  • Intermediate or higher level of expertise with MSSQL + Server
  • Ability to perform in a cooperative team environment
  • Interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to train others
  • Ability to cope with stress and perform in a cooperative team environment with the Client.
