Job Description

The Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) has a need for a Biomedical Research Laboratory Manager to support the 711th Human Performance Wing (HPW) located in Baltimore, MD.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Laboratory Operations Management tasks to include:

    • Coordinate and manage day-to-day laboratory activities.
    • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, ethical guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
    • Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment.
    • Implement new programs, tests, methods, and instrumentation.
    • Manage lab personnel daily duties, including training and performance management.
    • Foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
    • Schedule and assign employees based on lab operational needs.

Research Project Coordination tasks to include:

    • Oversee the planning, initiation, and execution of research projects.
    • Monitor progress and ensure adherence to timelines.
    • Collaborate with principal investigators and other stakeholders.
    • Maintains medical laboratory productivity by monitoring the workload of functional areas.

Budget Management tasks to include:

    • Develop and manage the laboratory budget.
    • Allocate resources efficiently and seek cost-saving opportunities.

Quality Control and Assurance tasks to include:

    • Achieves quality results by participating in the hospital quality assurance program.
    • Implement and maintain quality control measures for experiments and data collection.
    • Ensure compliance with good laboratory practices (GLP) and other relevant standards.
    • Adheres to specimen preparations procedures.

Equipment Maintenance tasks to include:

    • Establishes quality standards to maintain medical laboratory equipment performance.
    • Coordinate the maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
    • Troubleshoot equipment issues and arrange for repairs or replacements as needed.

Data Management tasks to include:

    • Implement data management systems and protocols.
    • Identifies informational needs to manage medical laboratory information systems.
    • Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with privacy regulations.

Collaboration and Communication tasks to include:

    • Facilitate communication among laboratory members and with external collaborators.
    • Foster a culture of open communication and collaboration.

Grant and Proposal Support tasks to include:

    • Prepare grant applications and research proposals.
    • Track and manage grant funds and expenditures.

Professional Development tasks to include:

    • Stay informed about advancements in the field and emerging technologies.
    • Support the professional development of laboratory staff.
    • Comply with state and professional continuing education licensure requirements.

Environmental Health and Safety tasks to include:

    • Promote and enforce adherence to safety protocols and procedures.
    • Coordinate with environmental health and safety officers to ensure compliance.

Documentation and Reporting tasks to include:

    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of laboratory activities.
    • Prepare regular reports for senior management or funding agencies.

Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Master's degree in STEM field with a minimum of three (3) years' demonstrated experience in research/translational lab.
  • Possess at least one (1) year demonstrated experience with large animal research models (swine).
  • Familiarity with managing military funded grants. (Highly desired)

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrated experience following industry standards and safety regulations for handling samples.
  • Ability to work with veterinary staff to set up and prepare experiments.
  • Project management skills, including the ability to track and manage inventory.
  • Ability to work independently; attention to detail, extensive organizational skills, initiative, ability and drive to solve practical problems, excellent multitasking skills, ability to professionally interact with all levels of personnel.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office programs and laboratory management software such as lab chart.
  • Prior Military experience.
  • Must be willing to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA).

  • US Citizen
  • Must pass a NACI background check.
