Auxiliaries Design Engineer

Position Summary:

Life Cycle Engineering is looking for an Auxiliaries Design Engineer to join the LCE team supporting PMS 300 and 325 in Washington, DC. As an Auxiliaries Design Engineer, you will provide support for the PMS 300/325 Ship Design Management team, providing SME expertise for technical and engineering efforts on the assigned Hull (e.g T-AGOS, T-AO, T-ATS, NGLS, T-ARC, Service Craft).

Clearance Required:
  • Must be a US citizen with an Active DoD clearance

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Provide engineering/technical support for concept studies; feasibility studies; preliminary design activities; contract design activities; detail design and construction activities; independent design reviews; In-service ship design and engineering activities; shipboard installation support; and special studies related to ships/boats/craft, ship systems and/or shipboard equipment.
  • Perform critical ship design review and analysis of industry (shipyard) contract deliverables such as specifications, drawings and calculations. No behalf of Navy customer, develop corrective design comments and revisions to confirm to Government specifications and requirements.
  • Supervise and train junior SDM engineers.
  • Develop technical resolutions to engineering problems that arise in the production of Navy Ships.
  • Provide Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical (HM&E) technical assessments and evaluations in accordance with the specification and advise the client on equipment and system design issues.

Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering and eight (8) years of Navy shipbuilding/design experience OR 14 years of ship design experience in lieu of degree.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer relation skills.
  • Superior organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Prior military, maritime, or Marine Engineer background.
  • Experience with automated engineering software (i.e. AutoCAD, AdobePro).
  • Strong Marine Engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of Contract Documentation, experience reading contract data, and familiarity with NAVSEA ship specification requirements and processes.

Physical Demands and Expectations:
  • Regular physical activity to include walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting (up to 30 pounds), and standing; occasional prolonged sitting
  • Ability to speak, read, hear and write, with or without assistance
  • Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax and other office equipment
