We have an opening for a Practice Innovation and Knowledge Attorney.

The Practice Innovation and Knowledge Attorney ("PIKA") will support our Investment Funds and Private Capital ("Funds Group") with their knowledge management and innovation needs. The PIKA will serve as a legal knowledge, market, and practical resource to the practice group, primarily responsible for implementing and managing knowledge management and innovation projects and priorities for our Funds Group. This will include collecting, organizing, curating, expanding, and maintaining (practice group name)'s core practice content and "know how" (e.g. model and form documents, thought leadership materials, trainings, and substantive client presentations), sharing knowledge across the group, identifying attorney practice pain points for improvement with technology, and optimizing matter data. The role sits within the Practice Innovation & Knowledge Management team, part of the Practice Innovation & Legal Solutions Department.

In this capacity, the Practice Innovation and Knowledge Attorney will:

Knowledge and Data Management

  • Assess the assigned practice area's knowledge needs, and define and implement a plan to meet those needs;
  • Work closely with our Funds Group lawyers to collect and maintain deal experience data leveraging the firm's experience platform and deal intelligence tool;
  • In coordination with our Funds Group lawyers, draft, update and manage model documents, forms and templates, internal and client facing memoranda on practice legal issues, practice process checklists, and other required knowledge assets;
  • Collect, curate, and contribute content to contributing articles, client presentations, client alerts, and other content that position the Firm as a thought leader;
  • Promote and encourage use of the Firm's new Knowledge Management system within our Funds Group, and maintain and continuously update content within the system;
  • Monitor and share with practitioners recent, relevant legal developments and current market practice developments and trends;
  • Provide direct support to individual Funds Group practitioners to assist them with locating practice-related internal and external knowledge resources;
  • Identify practice-related training needs and coordinate with attorneys, Talent Development and Business Development to organize, design and deliver relevant training for associates;
  • Provide regular training on knowledge resources and innovative technology solutions to practice area lawyers and paralegals;
  • Coordinate with peers in other practice areas to exchange best practices in knowledge resources developed by each area;
  • Identify and communicate fund term trends for internal and client training and communications;
  • Review, update, and maintain fund terms and firm experience database;
  • Potentially support additional practice groups as necessary; and
  • Work beyond scheduled hours as necessary and travel as required.

Technology and Innovation

  • Identify practice pain-points and use cases for legal technology tools, and recommend solutions, and contribute to the design and development of legal tech solutions, including facilitating administration of pilot plans or proofs of concept, communicating and driving adoption around launch of new solutions;
  • Help evaluate emerging technologies and propose their potential applications in legal processes. Support and collaborate with colleagues in the Practice Innovation & Legal Solutions Department to promote and support Department-wide initiatives;
  • Participate in the continuous development of internal policies and processes to foster innovation and best practice KM;
  • Foster relationships with industry peers, legal technology providers, and other stakeholders; and
  • Attend conferences, seminars, and events to keep abreast of industry trends and best practices, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and best practice sharing amongst practice areas and the global Practice Innovation & Knowledge Management team.

Proficiencies:

  • Prior experience practicing in the investment funds space or related areas (required);
  • Experience with knowledge management and / or legal innovation practices (preferred);
  • Advanced knowledge of the workflows and core needs of Funds lawyers;
  • Familiarity with legal innovation and legal technology ecosystem;
  • Proficiency in developing training curricula and learning and development best practices;
  • Advanced proficiency in researching and drafting relevant legal documents and content;
  • Competency with firm software programs;
  • Advanced proficiency in document management search functionality and systems;
  • Familiarity with change management, project management and process improvement;
  • Ability to handle multiple projects, and prioritize effectively;
  • Ability to work independently, and collaborate as a team member; and
  • Desire for continuous learning, demonstrating a clear interest in, and ability to adapt to, new technologies

Qualifications:

  • Law degree and current bar admission or equivalent in the jurisdiction of the Firm office (required);
  • At least 5 years of law firm practitioner experience in the investment funds space (preferred); and
  • Experience in a knowledge management role and/or legal innovation practices (preferred).

The salary wage range that we expect to pay for this position is a minimum of $174,800 and a maximum of $254,000 annually. The actual pay wage may vary based on experience or other relevant factors.
