USAID Power Africa Communications Specialist
Job Description

Jefferson Consulting Group is an award-winning woman-owned small business seeking a Communications Specialist for Power Africa. The Communications Specialist will play a crucial role in creating and maintaining effective communication channels, producing high-quality content that engages, educates, and inspires USAID Power Africa's target audiences. The ideal candidate will have a strong command of the English language, an attention to details, and a flair for creativity.


This role is a full-time position working on-site within the USAID offices in Washington, DC.


Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Communications Support

* Support the strategic principles and activities of the Power Africa communications objectives:

a) Maintain the strategic principles of the integrated strategic communication plan by ensuring that the principles flow into all communications activities

b) Develop, maintain, and update templates for various communication products

that ensure consistency of the Power Africa brand

c) Enable Power Africa to track media coverage

d) Conduct external stakeholder mapping and tracking

e) Develop domestic and regional media plans, as requested.

Support for the Power Africa Communications Network

* Create and maintain a spreadsheet/database of all Power Africa partners for both official

partners and affiliates who will be key amplifiers for Power Africa's work to educate the public.

* Developing "go kits" of communications materials and communications training/orientation documents for USAID staff, inter-agency partners, development partners, local governments, and private sector partners.

* Providing communications training for USAID staff, inter-agency partners, development partners, local governments, and private sector partners. These may be delivered as part of an annual on-site training event, quarterly or ad hoc onsite training sessions, and quarterly or ad hoc webinars.

* Developing joint or co-branded communications materials such as fact sheets, blogs, articles and visual materials.


Events Management Support


* Provide a broad range of support to the Power Africa inter-agency, under the direction of the COR, for all events, conferences, workshops, meetings, forums, and other public engagements that include Power Africa attendance and/or participation. It is anticipated that Power Africa will host or attend approximately 18 conferences and 42 workshops per year.

* Coordinate event logistics in a flexible, time-sensitive manner. Logistics include selecting the venue, catering, arranging for audio/visual needs, arranging for travel and transportation of Contractor staff and any special guests not employed by the U.S. Government, coordinating all printing needs, coordinating with speakers, etc.

* Execute payment to secure catering, audio/visual, conference fees, translation, accessibility, and other event- related expenses as required by the venue or conference.

* Provide on-site support for events, including registration, facilitation, coordination, and management of personnel.

* Provide social media support for the event, to include but not limited to:

o Campaign design and amplification support

o Analytics for social and digital media accounts, profiles and campaigns

o Other digital and social media support as needed


Qualifications

* A Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 8 years of professional experience

* Ability to obtain a USAID facility access (Public Trust) clearance

* Excellent writing, editing and content development skills, including taking complex ideas and distilling for a wide range of audiences

* Specialized experience in organizing and implementing communications and outreach activities including with social media tools and integrated campaigns

* Strong project management skills and ability to translate data into actionable recommendations that improve communications and outreach

* Experience taking initiative and delivering written products and materials that support an organization's communications and outreach goals

* Excellent oral, interpersonal, and written communications skills to effectively interact with government clients, high-ranking officials, and other stakeholders

* Strong prioritization and organization skills with keen attention to deadlines

* Positive and professional attitude and demeanor

* Detail-oriented and interested in producing quality work products

* Proficiency in Google Suite of products

* Proficiency in Microsoft Suite of products including excel, word, and PowerPoint

* Experience with USAID, USG or other related organizations is a plus
