Position Summary:
The Holton-Arms School seeks a collaborative, flexible, and enthusiastic Pianist to serve as part-time musical accompanist for our choral program, joining our robust Performing Arts team. The Music program provides students with the opportunity to develop a foundation in the many and varied qualities of musicianship that will enable them to be successful in all of their musical pursuits. In addition to developing their technical skills and understanding, students learn to take creative risks, to think critically, and to work collaboratively. In exploring music from a wide range of cultures and traditions, students deepen their interest in and sensitivity to the communities of people who created it. Candidates must have experience accompanying choral groups and working with Lower, Middle and/or Upper School students. All aspects of Holton-Arms programming help develop students' competencies around Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, Social Emotional Learning and Global Education. These competencies are integral to the music program. Qualified candidates will be asked to continue and expand upon our work in these areas. The music program seeks to create a space where students feel prepared to take risks, grow, and deepen their understanding of themselves, others, and their world. We are seeking candidates who are excited to further this vision.
Responsibilities:
  • Accompany the following Ensembles during class, rehearsals, concerts and festivals.
    • Upper School Chorus
    • Upper School Swing Choir
    • Middle School Chorus
  • Accompany the following Ensembles during final rehearsals, concerts and festivals.
    • Lower School Choirs (grades 4, 5, 6)
    • Wind and String Ensembles
    • Convocation and Graduation/Commencement
    • Musical (every other year)
  • Some evening and weekend hours required
  • Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • In-depth experience accompanying choral ensembles grades 4-12.
  • Versatile in performing different styles and genres - improvisation is a plus.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, parents, staff and colleagues.
  • Ability to plan and manage resources effectively to support teaching, learning and performance preparation.
  • Desire to pursue ongoing professional development, making the most of the opportunities both within and outside the school to improve teaching and to demonstrate for the students the value of lifelong learning.
  • Demonstrated high levels of enthusiasm for teaching and learning, and striving to engender a joy of learning in all students.
  • A passion for developing deep understanding of music concepts, as well as student application of concepts learned.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other department teachers on curriculum development and concert/programming selection and preparation.
