We are currently searching for a Senior International Student Advisor to join the Cranwell International Center (CIC) team in supporting international students in the DC Metro Area. This position will work to ensure the university's compliance with federal regulations governing the enrollment of international students and exchange visitors while managing a portfolio of immigration casework and advising international students, functioning as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO), certified by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the US Department of State (DOS) respectively, utilizing the DHS Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), and requiring specialized knowledge and expertise for the interpretation and application of complex federal regulations and academic policies and procedures. The position will also be responsible for CIC's programmatic support in the DC Metro Area under the strategic vision of the Director. Here is what you need to know about the role:

1. You will be joining the Cranwell International Center. This department exists to articulate, advocate, and act in support of international students, amplifying their contributions to the Virginia Tech community and to the advancement of the university as more globally oriented and internationally connected.

2. You will report to the Associate Director for International Student Services and the Director. This position is a Regular, Calendar Year, 100% Administrative Professional appointment.

3. You will be responsible for the immigration casework and programmatic experience of Virginia Tech's DC Metro Area students with the support of the Cranwell International Center professional team. In addition, as needed and capacity allows, you will also have an advising caseload to support remotely across all Virginia Tech campuses.

4. You will have the chance to grow and take advantage of a developmental plan with opportunities to advance within the Department and the Division.

5. You will be offered a salary range from $57,000 - $60,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, paid leave, retirement, tuition assistance, VT discounts, and so much more!

Required Qualifications

* Master's degree
* Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying federal immigration laws and regulations.
* Demonstrated experience exercising discretion and independent judgment in making informed decisions in complex situations.
* Demonstrated experience working with complex organizational processes and procedures.
* Demonstrated aptitude for learning, interpreting, and disseminating highly technical information, regulations, and procedures.
* Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
* Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication skills.
* Experience working with diverse populations within an intercultural context.
* Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver professional presentations.
* Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team.
* Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and balance competing priorities.
* Demonstrated proficiency using the US Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).
* Eligibility for certification by DHS as a Designated School Official (DSO) - must be US citizen or US lawful permanent resident.

Preferred Qualifications

* Active involvement with NAFSA: Association of International Educators or other higher education associations.
* Experience as an Alternate Responsible Officer.
* Experience with Banner or other SIS.
* Experience with Sunapsis or other student immigration management software.
* Experience living or studying abroad.

This position will initially be temporarily located in Falls Church, VA and based out of Virginia Tech's Northern Virginia Center. Eventually this position will transition to its permanent location on the Innovation Campus in Alexandria, Virginia in Academic Building 1 (ICAB1).
