World Central Kitchen (WCK) is expanding its Executive Leadership and seeks a Chief Technology Officer to join its team. Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) is responsible for establishing a vision and strategic design of technology systems and usage for the organization. This position is hybrid, based in Washington DC, with 1-2 days on-site per week.

We seek an entrepreneurial tech visionary with non-profit experience who can support our mission of being first to the frontlines and receiving real-time, critical data to improve efficiencies and speed. The CTO will provide short and long-term technology solutions and integrations, including infrastructure and architecture, and disaster monitoring and tracking. The CTO will drive digital transformation, including planning, scoping and execution for the successful delivery of Data and Technology services and operations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement our technology strategy and roadmap in alignment with evolving needs and objectives, including providing strategic guidance on business and technology integration, support for cloud-based environments, optimization, and evolution of new and existing technology.
  • Design a team structure and work with existing and new talent to implement this strategy.
  • Develop a data strategy to include data governance, data catalog and data privacy related to but not limited to ERP, CRM, and financial data.
  • Establish Data and Technology policies, standards, practices, and safeguards.
  • Work closely with the relief team leadership to learn how technology can support and fuel our activations. Pilot and test new solutions and track success to create a roadmap forward. Collaborate to build and drive innovation in our Cloud Data Platform.
  • Collaborate with other department leads and team members to align and integrate our digital stacks, identify opportunities for innovation, and determine how technology can drive growth and improve operations.
  • Accountable for operability and health of systems including troubleshooting, upgrades, backup, and system optimization. Responsible for WCK's disaster recovery plans, business continuity and strategies to ensure zero data loss.
  • Oversee the planning and coordination of system installations. Provides strategic leadership for the design, documentation, testing, installation and modification and support of new or existing application software.
  • Champion data and cybersecurity to ensure that the infrastructure is secure, scalable, and aligned with industry best practices and regulatory obligations.
  • Develop and implement robust security measures to protect sensitive information. Stay informed about the latest security threats and industry standards to proactively mitigate risks.
  • Build collaborative and effective relationships across the organization to continuously translate evolving business needs into technical requirements. Ensure that data and technology continue to play a key role in bringing teams together by optimizing resources and maximizing the use of technology.
  • Review and manage IT project resource demands across the organization to ensure technology and operations meet current and anticipated capacity needs and demands.
  • Manage technology vendors aligned with contract and organization legal requirements.
  • Manage and develop relationships with strategic partners and explore collaborations that can enhance the organization's technological capabilities.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the budget for the Data and Technology department
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree with 15 years of progressive IT leadership.
  • Executive-level nonprofit experience, preferably in international relief.
  • Substantial leadership experience in formulating, planning, leading, directing and controlling complex, broad, and highly technical functions.
  • In-depth knowledge of emerging technologies, trends, methodologies, and resource management principles.
  • Prior experience in public cloud services, particularly with a strong background in Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Proven experience developing and driving a technical roadmap.
  • Skilled in building partnerships and working collaboratively with others at both executive and subject matter expertise level.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both technically and non-technically.
