Job Description

Sayres, a distinguished leader in defense support services to the DOD, is currently seeking an experienced Senior-Level Structural Engineer with a current SECRET clearance, verifiable in DISS in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities:

As a Senior-Level Structural Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in providing engineering and technical support for various shipbuilding activities. Your expertise will encompass concept studies, feasibility studies, preliminary design activities, contract design activities, detail design and construction activities, independent design reviews, in-service ship design and engineering activities, shipboard installation support, and special studies related to ships, boats, craft, ship systems, and shipboard equipment.

Additional Duties:

1. Structural Integrity Analysis: Perform detailed structural analysis and assessments to ensure the integrity and safety of ship structures, including hulls, decks, bulkheads, and other critical components.

2. Material Selection: Collaborate with material specialists to select suitable materials for shipbuilding projects, considering durability, weight, and cost-effectiveness.

3. Ship Stability Analysis: Conduct ship stability assessments to ensure vessels' stability under various operating conditions and cargo loading scenarios.

4. Quality Control: Implement stringent quality control measures during the construction phase to maintain adherence to design specifications and regulatory standards.

5. Structural Modifications: Evaluate and propose structural modifications or improvements to enhance ship performance and operational capabilities.

6. Naval Architecture Support: Collaborate with naval architects to integrate structural design elements seamlessly with overall ship design.

7. Interface Coordination: Work closely with other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless integration of structural elements with electrical, mechanical, and systems components.

Preferred Skill Sets:

- Familiarity with DoD/DoN procedures and Policies, including the DoD 5000 process.
- Experience with Foreign Military Sales (FMS) and Military Sealift Command procedures and processes.
- Supervisory experience, overseeing and guiding junior engineers.
- Effective communication skills to interact with SES/Flag level personnel.
- Previous shipbuilding experience, including ship construction and outfitting.

Minimum Skill Sets of Qualified Candidates:

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, specializing in Structural Engineering.
- A minimum of 7+ years of experience in DoD/Navy program management, Government technical management, or Industry business management.
- Active Secret Clearance verifiable in DISS/JPAS.

Preferred Skill Sets of Qualified Candidates:

- Master's degree in Engineering, with a focus on Structural Engineering.
- Possession of a Professional Engineer License.
- A minimum of 10+ years of experience in DoD/DoN program management, Government technical management, or Industry business management.
