We are hiring for an exceptional Senior MechanicalEngineer to join our team of world-renowned experts and Product Development Engineers. Join us in our innovation!


The Senior Product Development Engineer in Life Cycle Engineeringwill be conducting and documenting detailed root-cause failure investigations, supporting the lifecycle of a commercialized novel medical device. This critcal team member will be responsible for implementing corrective actions and product improvements through mechanical design and verification testing.

PrincipalDuties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for investigating, resolving and documenting internal and external complaints for released clinical product.
  • Analyze electro-mechanical data to confirm symptom and identify failure mode.
  • Troubleshoot failures to system,subassembly and component level and identify root cause.
  • Document the investigation work; provide conclusions and recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Implement corrective actions for system failures.
  • Support the development of electro-mechanical medical devices including system architecture and detailed design/implementation.
  • Coordinate product development activities with electrical, software, and manufacturing engineering as required.
  • Provide schedule and status updates to manager as required
  • Identify and effectively manage critical issues.

RequiredQualifications:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering
  • 5+ years of progressively complex mechanical engineering experience, including troubleshooting experience
  • Proficiency with engineering CAD software
  • Detailed and methodical approach to failure investigations
  • Willingness and abilityto travel up to 10% of the time, as necessary, as Abiomed has multipleoffice locations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as injection molding, machining, etc. preferred.
  • Some product development experience preferred
  • Familiarity with medical device standards and CE mark requirements for international use a plus
